The Lincoln Sugar Beet Factory

Around the turn of the century, following the success of its first sugar factory at Lehi,
Utah, the Utah Sugar Company began to expand into other areas. In 1903 principals
of the company and some Idaho citizens formed Idaho Sugar Company and constructed
a factory at Lincoln, just east of what is now Idaho Falls. The Lincoln factory was able to
survive and surprisingly did not miss a single operating campaign in its 75 years of
operation. Over the years it was repeatedly improved, enlarged, and modernized. Its
original capacity of 600 tons of beets per day increased to 4400 tons, and the factory
earned the distinction of being one of the most efficient plants in the industry. Over the
years it produced over 4 billion pounds of top quality sugar.
